Senate Judiciary Committee Advances HALT Fentanyl Act
The Senate Judiciary Committee has advanced the HALT Fentanyl Act with a bipartisan 16-5 vote. The bill, led by Senators Chuck Grassley, Bill Cassidy, and Martin Heinrich, aims to permanently classify fentanyl-related substances as Schedule I drugs before their temporary status expires on March 31, 2025.
The legislation has gained support from over 40 advocacy groups and is endorsed by key figures, including former Attorney General Pam Bondi and President Trump’s Office of Management and Budget. The bill is seen as a critical step in combating the opioid crisis and curbing illegal fentanyl trafficking.
